Ep 368: The Art of Delegation: Scaling Your Business with Dwan Bent-Twyford

Dwan Bent-Twyford delves into the art of delegation and how it's crucial for scaling a business. Elzie shares how maturity and the realization of the unsustainability of doing everything on his own prompted him to embrace delegation as a means for business growth.

Dwan's delegation journey began unexpectedly during a long layover at an airport when she came across a mini-book. Recognizing the need to delegate, she started by handing off tasks she disliked, such as paperwork and managing monthly books, as well as the extensive paperwork required for real estate deals. Over time, her delegation efforts expanded to include hiring a transactional coordinator, rehab crews, and a contractor.

Despite her 30 years in the business, Bent-Twyford still finds joy in working directly with distressed homeowners and revitalizing properties. These tasks, fueled by her passion, remain close to her heart. Tune in to gain valuable insights into effective delegation strategies and how it can help your business thrive.

Episode Highlight:

02:17 - So, I started delegating things that I did not enjoy but are necessary. So, I just found good people, and then I started doing three and four houses at a time. I had to have other rehabbers because I can't do everything by myself. I don't have the skill set to do every single thing. So, I started finding crews, and then I would micromanage my crews. So, then I found a contractor. I'm like, "Okay, you micromanage the crews, and I'll just micromanage you." So, I just had to slowly peel my fingers off of things until I was doing what I really like. And what I really like is, I still to this very day, like talking to homeowners in distress and helping them.
